It feels like yesterday I first stepped food through the doors of the Gold Coast Chabad and was greeted with a room full of smiles, belly laughs, and a hearty meal on Shabbos back in 2008. I returned the following Friday night, and the Friday after that. Rabbi Serebryanski’s home became my home, a safe haven to reconnect with my faith and values, as an essential reset of my sometimes uneasy weeks while studying abroad at nearby Bond University.

– Courtney Fallon

Bluma frequently runs her shiurim for women, sharing her knowledge and wisdom with us. I especially love her kindness and sense of humour, making the lessons even more interesting and fun. We learn so much more about the Jewish culture and tradition, and I always feel empowered to improve myself and feel closer to Hashem.

– Shai, Sandra, Yuval and Ronnel

While we lived on the Gold Coast from 2010-12, we rolled up our sleeves and not only participated in Chabad events, but also helped however we could because we wanted to become part of the altruistic mission of the Chabad shluchim. While there are many challenges living in a small Jewish community, Mosheh and Bluma provide endless opportunities to be with other Jews and to help them in a multitude of ways, whether they are community members or not. Although we moved away, we continue to support Chabad of Gold Coast.

– Aviv and Michal Kartuz

Mosheh and Bluma and their family were a core of kindness and heartbeat of goodwill while I was living on my own by the beach in Gold Coast, bicycling, and cooking meals alone. Connecting through song and prayer and wonderful family dinners when I was an entire hemisphere away from home made me feel more connected to people, purpose, and my Jewish community.

– Lindsey Ricker

At age 16 I came to the Chabad House and instantly felt at home. The Chabad House gave me a connection with Hashem, a community, friends, and eventually I even found my husband. Rabbi Mosheh and Bluma have created a warm and open Chabad house where people of all ages and backgrounds feel comfortable to explore their yidishkeit. Whether it’s a casual Shabbos meal, celebrating Yom Tovim or learning one on one, there is a tangible spark of something very special and holy at this Chabad House.

Did you know Rosh Hashana is the beginning of our Jewish New Year?

It’s a special time to pray for a good, sweet new year.

Rosh Hashana is the time when we crown Hashem as King.

This means that we recognise Hashem is the source of life to everything in this world and cares about each one of us.

Time to blow…. (toot toot!)

The main way we celebrate this special day is by hearing the Shofar.
